They Shoot… They Score!

One hour in and the ball is rolling as NIL laws in several states go into effect today. In a long and grueling head-to-head between the NCAA and college athletes, the day has finally come where amateur athletes will now be able to profit off their name, image, and likeness.

After years of NCAA amateurism policies barring, and even punishing, student athletes for earning a profit on their athletic sponsorships and advertising, the world has opened for college athletes to monetize their names, images, and likenesses. Indeed, athletes now have permission to contract with third parties, so long as they stay within the boundaries their school sets.

Importantly, all college athletes will be able to monetize their names, images, and likenesses, though NIL laws vary state-wide. As we wait for a uniform national decision, the NCAA finds itself behind the eight ball.

Tennis champion Jimmy Connors once said “I think my greatest victory was every time I walked out there, I gave it everything I had. I left everything out there. That’s what I’m most proud of.” Certainly, that is what college athletes have done with a Grand Slam victory and the possibility of a Career Grand Slam win around the corner.

NIL is live!
